86 Pontiac 6000 Engine swaps?

Hello i have a 86 Pontiac 6000 with no rust but the engine has started to knock and stall out. So in reality from prices it looks like it will be cheaper and better in the long run to put a newer engine in it i have access to v6-v8 engines at the junk yard for 200 bucks with trans attached so just wondering if any one here knows what engines would be easiest

the junk yard doesnt have a Hollander Interchange guide?

Nope they just there to sell parts pull parts yard so they dont really care whats what but show them what engine you want and they pull it for you right out of the car

the 6000 came with engines ranging from 2.5 4 cyl to 3.1 6 cyl. You would have to carefully compare the mounting points and if a newer engine you need the ECM and wire harness.

Yes i had already had planned on doing the wire harness, computer, and more than likely custom engine mounts. Another option i was looking at that actually might be easier not sure if its been done but i have a 96 ford ranger i have seen some people go ahead and take the cab/bed off and mount a car body on them of course i'm not looking to do a giant lift and all that fancy stuff lol
