1966 Pontiac Lemans Alternator question

I've been working on cleaning up the wiring on my 1966 Pontiac Lemans.

Here's a picture of the alternator. There is a #10 gauge red wire connected to the right side of the alternator with the yellow terminal connector. There was what appeared to be a fuse holder on this wire but it was melted and the fuse was missing, so I don't know what the amperage was.

Only as a temporary measure, I got rid of the fuse holder and connected the leads together (see red wire nut). Luckily the alternator seems to be operating well.

Does anyone here know if there should be a fuse on the alternator red wire and what the correct amperage is?

Thanks
