93 transport hvac temp control

Hello all I am new to this forum. I have a 93 Pontiac Trans Sport that have owned since '96. lately the hvac temp control has been very erratic. Have to work the switch a lot to make it change from hot to cold or vice versa. This past week it has just not changed to cold at all. I know the temp control is by a blend door activated with an actuator. I don't know if the problem is the switch or the actuator -- or even something else. My question is how in the heck to you get to the switch and or the actuator? Does it require complete dash dismanteling ? Or does someone know a shortcut.

Thanks in advance for any help or response
