One of the reasons somebody used 421 parts might be the fact that in 1964Car and Driver published a road test of GTO.
That car prepared Jim Wanger Who used some parts from 421.
Although the parts used in the test were not the parts used in my car... It could have been be some "hint" :-)

Do you think the changes were made before the car went to Europe?

The vehicle history is following:
At least between the years 1990-2017 was the car owned by one owner, who is now at least 60+. In those years nobody opened the engine. Only normal service has been made.
Between 1990-2017 only 3000! miles were driven.
I bought the vehicle in 2017 in USA and brought it to Europe.
2017-2018 another 2300 miles came to the odometer.
The engine is now open after at least 28 years for the first time.
According to the lenght of distribution chain I guess that this modification sits in the engine for more than 40000 miles.
I have no idea when it was made, but my guess would be no later than 1975...

Are you aware of the services provided by www.phs-online.com . They have the images of the original window sticker and perhaps other information about the car.

Your gasoline octane will support a 10.5 compression ratio?
Concerning the camshaft that was selected, did they discuss with you the type of transmission, manual or automatic, if automatic the stall speed, and the rear end gear ratio?
Did they give an estimated horse power?
