A very long PS return hose??

Hello Guys. Im New on this forum, and i come from Norway, Europe-
I also have owned a Transport some years ago.

I bought a Pontiac Transport 94 today, -just for using it some months at my job.

Problem is PS is leeking at Return hose. (MIX of rubber hose and steel-line)
When i follow the line it make a long long way from the pump. going to front track-bar, making a U-turn, then going back the same way to the steering rack.
Im sure this is an original set-up, since the rust is present.

So whats the purpose of such a so long Return-hose?
Can i shorten the line?

i cant find any cooler.

Anybody know?

i assume this is the hose you are referring to and cannt tell you why GM designed it this way. If you can shorten it and make it fit do it.

If it is steel, it may be to provide a little cooling.
