Gears for the rear end carrier

I have a XH rear carrier with 355 gears in it. Will this carrier accept a 336 gear or do I need to get a different carrier.

all three series carriers will accept any 3.xx gear. Why are you going from a 3.55 to a 3.36 doesnt seem to be worth the effort. I went from a 3.08 to a 3.55 and that was a very noticeable difference.

I drive my car about 200 miles on the express way to visit my mom and my kids.
I would like something that will not tack the engine so hi when going 70.

I did a little more research and found out they did have a difference in three series carriers, the dividing line being the 3.36. So the lowest you can go is the 3.36. The next lowest 3.23 started using a different carrier.

Does anyone have the formula for calculating the engine rpm base on the rear gear ratio and the tire o.d.

here you go, So if you have a 27" tire and currently have the 3.55 at 70 mph the engine turns at 3,092 rpm. Going to a 3.36 produces 2,927 rpm. Thus my original thought it is not worth the effort for such a small difference.

Thanks for the info. I see that changing from my 235/60r/14 to a 255/60r/15
might help my problem

Also since I changed my mufflers the rpm range isn't as big of problem any more. The road noise inside the car at 70 mph has decreased big time.

If you are going to change from 14" to 15", I would consider going to 17". The selection of modern tire designs are not found in 15" tires.
