65 GTO Hurst Trans Question

I have a 65 GTO with a Hurst 4 spd transmission.
When cold it sticks in reverse as I back out of the garage. It will go into 1st gear but as I release the clutch, it sticks in reverse. I slowly release the clutch in first gear, it remains in reverse and feels like its going to die and it is reverse.
I run thru the gears, then slowly release the clutch and eventually it either clunks into 1st or it clears the issue and I can operate it as normal.
This only happens when the car is cold, never after being driven.

Trans issue or throw out bearing issue or ???

what you have is a hurst shifter on a munice transmission. Place the car on a lift or jack stands and using an engine degreaser product clean the shifter and linkage. After washing off the grime lightly lubricate the mechanism. At the same time with the shifter in neutral take a box end wrench and make sure the 3 shift mechanism shaft bolts or nuts are tight. One is for the 1-2 gears, the other is for the 3-4 gears and the last is for reverse.
