A friend has one that he inherited. Been sitting for several years. It seems to have a 350 Buick v-8. Front distributor so what else could it be? I don't have a pic of the car's trans pan, but what transmission might be in it. I have read the 200 series are junk,and have had good experience with the 700r 4L60 series. He wishes to tow a small boat.

Only GM engine it could be with distributor in front on that car is a Buick.
They made some upgrades to the transmission in 79.
See if the owners manual has a section on towing and consider the age and mileage of the car.

It appears that the 700 transmissions did not come in until the 80s?
That the locking torque converter can be distinguished by the electrical plug on the left side of the transmission?
