HI, i have a 1978 Pontiac Catalina, and i was told the rear that's in my car is a 7.5 ring gear, and i was also told that a 80's caprice is the same rear, but has a bigger stronger ring and pinion gear, ''8.5'' and that it would bolt right up into my Catalina.

the car i believe is a B-BODY same as IMPALA and CAPRICE?

if anyone can help me out and verify that what i was told is true, it will be much appreciated.

TAHNK YOU.

lol sorry the head line says 1979, i meant to say 1978

thanks, i tryed the link out..but it didnt tell me too much, just diff parts. and fitment.

I meant you should try calling them, at the very least you would probably have to swap out the carrier assemby if not the whole rear. Why are you trying to do this?

i am looking to buy a caprice rear, and put it into my Catalina . as long as its the same ''B-body''

im thinking about drag racing the car a little, nothing crazy just a small block with a small shot, looking for a decently strong rear without braking my bank.

and the rear that is in my car, is a 7.5 supposedly and has some odd ball pinion bearing size or something like that, i cant find any after market parts for the 7.5 that's in my car now. camaro's and other gm's with the 7.5 is different from the 7.5 that i have. figured I'd go with something a little more common

here's another site you can try to ask about compatibility
