Hi folks,

I am currently working in Kuwait and searching for a car where I stumbled on what looks like a 1979 Trans Am T/A 6.6, black and gold. No sign of rust anywhere (I grew up in Canada and had an 82 trans-am myself which was a rust bucket) . Anyway I took the VIN # down 2W87W9N147053. When I looked this up on the pontiac website it comes back saying there shouldnt be a 6.6L engine in the car? The car is very dusty, from what I can see it has Moroso valave covers, Edelbrock is engraved into the engine block and has MSF (?) ignition.

On the outside, it has the pinstriping and the stickers where it is supposed to be, I took a million pictures of the outside and of the engine itself. The engine cowl does say "T/A 6.6". It has the gold honeycomb like wheels. There is a plate inside the engine compartment - it states "Body by Fisher" followed by a bunch of numbers

Inside the car, somebody put in a Hurst shifter, thing is I think the transmission is trashed as the car starts (sounds like a beast) but will not go into gear - oil on the ground , not much oil leaking from the engine.

Anybody know what I have here? Appreciate it

Ian

2=Pontiac
w=Trans Am (1977-1979)
87=2 door coupe
W= 301
9=1979
N=Norwood Plant
147053=sequence number

W=301

Thanks for the reply. What is confusing for me is that w=301, 301 is the engine correct? If so, can there be a 6.6L engine in the car or was that an option that could be ordered aftermarket?

I really want to buy this car (especially with the no rust factor) but I want to be sure that it has the larger engine.

Appreciate your help

look at the pad on the block in front of the passenger side cylinder head. There will be a letter code below are their meanings

W72 Pontiac 400: PWH (manual only)

Olds 403: Q6, QE, QJ, QK, QL

Pontiac 301: X4, X6
