So I was driving my car the other day, and the steering felt like it went out. when I stopped I noticed that the metal hose going to the passenger side on the Steering rack had a pin hole and leaked out all my fluid. it was under pressure. My question is how hard Is it to replace the entire rack, or replace just that one hose.

I am pretty mechanically inclined but was hoping you wouldnt say that. I was thinking on just getting some JB weld and some cleaner and cleaning up the spot and just pitting JB weld around it to seal it, or some belzona. I know a new steering rack is like 150 but couldnt imagine waht a shop would charge for it. hell it woud probably be cheaper junking it. Or selling it at a discount.

Power steering is usually pretty high PSI, 1,000 PSI is not unusual but I thought you said the hose had the leak not the rack.

Yea its the metal hose that goes to the rack. I know JB weld when used properly can hold like 3000 Psi. its a pin hole but the fluid was coming out of there pretty good. I was hoping I could just reach both ends of the metal hose and replace it but I can only see 1 side and plus there is that possibility that it could break off and i would be up S#!t creek. If i have to get up underneath the car and start dropping things i would just replace the whole thing.

unless you have other issues with the car seems to me paying a shop to replace a hose has to be cheaper than another car, get an estimate

Well 24 hours later and J B weld and good as new. I know not the right fix but a quick one for now.
