2001 Firebird sputters in first gear

I have a 2001 Firebird that when I accelerate while in first gear it will sputter but once it changes into 2nd gear it doesn't do it anylonger. It just started today; what could be causing this?

What RPM does it sputter in first gear and if you go to the same RPM in second gear does it also sputter? How many miles since you changed the air and fuel filters? How many miles since you changed the spark plugs?
