2006 G6 GT 3500 V6 Can't loosen belt tension.

I'm using a belt tension tool to try and loosen tension so I can remove alternator. I pull towards the front of the vehicle but it only moves so far. It's like it just dead stops and only slightly loosening. Not even close to being loose enough to do anything. I am definitely not hitting anything with my tension tool. Anyone else have this problem? And how to overcome it?

Unbolt the alternator to free it and then double check the belt against the new one at the parts store....I have had belts that are supposed to be the right one but tighter.....
