I just came into possession of my moms first car which is a 1979 formula firebird 301. I've been tinkering with it and it still runs strong but I was wondering if it was possible to get rid of some of the emissions junk I.e; smog pump, charcoal canister and maybe a few of the million vacuum lines. I'm just trying to clean up the engine compartment and make it a little easier to work on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what state do you live in??? most of the vacum crap is for the emissions system... do you have a check engine light???

I live in connecticut and no I don't have a check engine light and it runs really smooth actually considering there is at least 3 lines disconnected. I wouldn't be worried about it but it looks like crap and they were disconnected when I got it so I don't know where they go.

So if they are already disconnected and CT doesnt have emissions tests for vehicles older than 20 or 25 years, you can remove the rest just doent throw it out.
