Color code

G

G-996796

Hi I'm new here!
I wanted to introduce myself first. I'm Patrick from Germany
Have a 1965 Pontiac Catalina
I wanted to ask if the ice blue is a Pontiac color
Can you do something with the tin sign?
Does the sign match the color of the car?

I know "ice blue metallic" is a Ford body color. I have a 2003 Crown Victoria with the color "ice blue metallic." The closest Pontiac color for 1965 to Ford's ice blue would be Fontaine blue or Bluemist slate.

Yes, I took a look today, it should be blue mist slate!
Now it's just that! Has to completely repaint the car!
can the paint still be bought or should the painter select and mix it himself?
Ich bin in Deutschland und werde nach deutschem Standard lackiert.

the engine can't be deduced from it, right?

The color is mixed from a formula.
The trim plate does not have engine information.

Not even the VIN tag will tell us the engine type the car with in 1965, sorry. But it will be either a 389 V8, or very rarely a 421 V8. Those are the only 2 size engines put into Catalina's in 1965. Here is a link showing the different engine codes used in 1965

and if you do not know how to find the 2 letter code try this link, it shows were to find the engine code, along with block casting number. Your engine will not have a VIN number stamped onto the block. Pontiac did not start doing that until sometime in 1967. Also it will not have the engine displacement cast into the block, as that did not start until later years also.

Keep in mind that alot can happen to a car in 50+ years, and even stranger things can happen when spare parts are hard to come by, like a Pontiac in Germany! So do not be surprised if your Catalina does not have the original engine installed in it.

Good luck, and please keep us posted on what you find.

Hey
Thanks men!
but according to the previous owner it is a pontiac engine
also has pontiac valve cover on it, but that doesn't mean anything.
I'll look for numbers.
I only know that, according to the previous owner, the engine was drilled out to 462cui. Think could be feasible with the 389cui right?
transmission is a th400 installed but everything according to the previous owner

I have a 389 cubic inch bored out .060 over size (the maximum recommended). That is about 409 cubic inches, if my calculations for cylinder volume is correct. Boring out a cylinder more than .060 inches is not recommended. Later year Pontiac engine sizes are 400, 428 and 455 cubic inches. 455 bored out .020 would be about 462 cubic inches.

You need to look at the engine code to determine if it is possible to bore and stroke to 462. Sounds possible with a 455.

OK
so is that not even possible? to stroke from 389cui to 462cui?
then the previous owner told me crap.
I will see if I can see from below when the ponti is on the lift for the purpose of engine code.

The XA engine code was used on the 389 in 1965 and 1966.
It was used on the 400 in 1967, 1968, 1976, and 1977.
It was used on the 455 in 1973.
You will next need to find the date code.
It is next to the distributor on the drivers side. This link describes the format of the date.

The date code is sufficient.
The CID, cubic inch displacement, is not cast into the block.

April 19th 1973, with the XA engine code, only year ending with a 3 that had a XA, makes it a 455 originally. So it could be a 462.
The 485428 is also for a 1973 455 originally with an automatic transmission.

So I have a 455cui block that was probably just overhauled and drilled. That the 462cui came about! right?
and no engine from 1965, just 1973.
is that worse?

in any case no stroker then. right?

who have you see this?have you a list?with numbers
