Cruise control Rebuild?

Do cruise controls get "sticky"? My '83 Trans Am has a digital speedo added that fluctuates at low speed, above 30 mph it's OK. (The original speedo is OK at all speeds, so I have been bending the ear of the digital speedo guy, but he says CC.) The tranny-to-CC cable has been lubed. When I disconnect the CC-to-orig. speedo cable the fluctuation is still there in the digital. The digital is mounted between the CC & orig. speedo. I'm wondering if the cruise control needs rebuilt/cleaned.

Does anyone know of a shop that works on cruise controls? I haven't found anything in Hemmings or on the net. Or, does anyone have rebuild instructions? I have no idea how many springs, ball bearings, etc. are in there and what may fly out if I take it apart.

Guess I dont clearly understand your set up. You say if you disconnect the cable between the CC and the original speedo the digital still fluctuates yet you also say the digital is mounted between the CC and orig. speedo. How is your digital getting any reading if the cable is disconnected? Isnt the digital completely electronic or it depends upon input from the mechanical cables? If you need more info about your CC get a copy of the factory manual for your car.

I have the GM manual and a Haynes. They seem to cover how it works, but I will read the sections again to see if I'm missing anything.
