Well I'm back and need some more ideas. Since I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter and tps and maf sensor my 96 bird runs great but when you initially try to start it it takes a few seconds to start and when it does start there's a fuel smell. It also will sputter occasionally when the weather is hot and it will only last a couple seconds and will also go away the quicker you get to higher rpm's any help will be appreciated

check you fuel pressure while some one starts the car and see what the pressures do... it could be a regulator or maybe a bad injector...

starting issue

All your advice has been helpful and really appreciate it. I put a new regulator on it and it still does it. Could you tell me the easiest way to test the injectors would be. Thanks again for everything

u could try pulling you fuel rail off the intake. unplug the injector electrically and leave fuel supply hooked up... jump the fuel pump relay and see which ones leak by... other than that just by some performance injector... good luck and keep me posted...

Hi...I have owned my Formula for 12 years now, and I was a Pontiac tech during the LT1 and LS1 years. Is your check engine light on? If it is or isn't, plug a reader into it. If you get a trouble code #16, it is your optispark. If you don't get a trouble code, I would still suspect the opti. This happened three times on my car (long crank time) and all 3 times it was my opti-spark.

Performance injectors are ok if there the same as stock fuel flow if not you will need a tune to make the car run correct

Unless you are moving more air through the motor, bigger injectors will not help.
