Found the clonk in the front end of the 2003 Aztek

Was looking for the source of a power steering leak and I find a lot of oil and sludges. So I didn’t want to but I had to look 👀 further ,glad I did .
Some one was in a hurry never put the engine mount nuts back on the studs. How hard is that? 10 mm -1.5 pitch
photo of mount , it was shot . I got a new one and snaked it in there got some new nuts for bottom studs

i have a passenger side clunk when putting into gear with foot on brake

what type of noise did you have ?
When you start out from a stop. The engine will bam 💥 clonk going down the road it do it when it shift but not as severe.
Mind you I did this last spring so the description is but a good recall.
you will have to put the car up on jack stand both sides. You will need a floor jack to lift the engine high enough to let the studs clEar the frame and walk it out the front and out the fender well , it’s the best I can tell ,you very intense . Do be in a hurry.
youll have to loosen and realest the front motor mount also to get the height.
Im stopping here cause I’ve forgotten a lot of the steps , good luck 🍀

I had/have the same issue. Replaced the motor mounts and the major BAM went away, but didn't replace the transmission mount. Now I have a subtle 'bam' when going into reverse. Think it's the transmission mount?
