I recently bought a 2003 Grand Prix GT. It came with just one key. I went to Ace Hardware to have some spare keys made, I wanted one chip key that could start the car and one non-chip key to just open the door, trunk, and glovebox (to carry in my wallet in case I locked my keys inside.)

The chip key they made for me works fine. Oddly, the non-chip key they made for me can open the drivers door, but NOT the trunk or the glove box -- it won't even go in the key hole! I had another non-chip key made at a different Ace hardware and it also could only open the drivers door.

Question: is there some kind of security on the glove box and trunk so only a programmed chip key can open them? Anyone know?

There is no security feature causing your problem.
Did you look if the two blanks they use are the some other than the chip?
You may want to try a locksmith and show them the two keys.
