Hi im 17, and I bought a 77 firebird from a guy a month ago for $400 bucks. its in pretty nice shape. He told me it was a 350 but when i pulled it out and looked up the VIN # it turned out to be a 1972 455! The block casting # is 485428, date code H032, VIN # is 23C100302, and the number below the head is C018101 with a YC below it. Im trying to find out what model it came out of, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Not clear what you mean by model, the YC code engine was used in Firebirds in 1972

i dont know too much about cars but from what i found online the plant that assembled the car was in california, but it wasnt the van nuys plant so i assume it couldnt be a trans am motor, but does anyone know if firebirds were assembled at this plant and is there anyway to know what model( firebird, lemans etc.) the motor came out of based on block numbers. i know chevy motors have this info. thanks

72 Firebird?

The YC block came from a 1972 Pontiac Firebird. There is no way of knowing what model Firebird since the YC 455 could be used on a Trans Am or a Formula, etc.

Anyone have an idea what its worth? it needs to be rebuilt thats why i pulled it from the car

The site www.nada.com lists a stock, base firebird 1977, between 4K and 6K.

I just got a 400 today, and its a 73 motor. Its a Y4 block. Any idea what that came out of? Were all firebirds Y block cars?

Codes starting with Y have nothing to do with the line of car they were installed in. The Y4 was a low performance 400 for 73 rated at 185HP with dual exhaust and an automatic.
