Need help with temperature gaurge in 1974 Pontiac

Temperature gauge not working on 74 firebird formula 400 .

Did you try grounding the wire connected to the sensor, if the gauge moves the sensor is bad.

Yes it moves the gauge when I ground it and have replaced the sending unit but still cannot get gauge to work bought two sending units know but still can't get gauge to work.

Are you putting anything on the threads of the sending unit?
What manufacturer and part number sending unit are you using?

The sending unit came with tape on it I was wondering if that was killing my ground.

Try rtv instead so the brass threads get a bite on the cast iron.

Sure sounds like it killed the ground, do what 92 Sunbird said or remove some of the tape
