Just bought a 1994 Grand am - super clean low mileage car!! Bad engine!! Need to replace/ rebuild!! Heres my Question= the car has a 4 cyl HO engine-had bad oil pump! Now -to remove the engine= MUST?? I drop it all thru the bottom of car or as Im used to - remove it from the top engine bay area?? Hoping top area? Books say drop thru bottom - its also has the 5 speed getrag tranny! ADVICE=?????

If you have a repair manual you can follow that. I usually yank engines from the top.

Now -to remove the engine= MUST??

How long do you want to keep this car?; can you do the work yourself?; does it rotate?;

Pull the engine out and rebuild it or replace.

engine coming out!

Finally getting to the engine pull in my 1995 garnd am GT - p o (woman) didnt check her oil-so pump failed (gears worn down) engine siezed up- when pump failed. This car has set in a garage most of its life by her sister when she moved away for work. Its way too nice of a car to let go to junk. 32,000 miles origional. I imagine ill have to turn crank & look @ rods - yet = never know how bad till its apart. My winter rebuild project now. I have done many engines in past 50 years of mechanickin & yet never a quad 4 one. anyone know where to get some lower priced parts? like oil pump?? Thanx

X2 rockauto; although I have gotten pretty decent pricing from amazon which works out well since I have prime too.

yes & thanx again -heres another question=?? this car came with 16 " rims - why & not 15's?? trans ratios same for GT's v/s other cars =yes it has a 5 speed tranny-not auto.
