This is my first time on a forum, I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction its hard to find knowledgeable people for pontiac engines.
Im restoring my 68 bird and would like to use a 400 i have, im looking to get around 350-400hp out of it, what heads, cam etc.. would i have to use, the car currently has a perfect running 2 barrel pont 350 can i get that kind of hp out of it? Thanks

From the 400 you shoud easily be able to get 350 to 400 gross horse power. To start with is it a 2 bolt or 4 bolt main block? Do you have a budget or price is not an object? Assuming you have a good block, you need heads, cam, intake, exhaust and carburetor to start with. For heads you can try the Edlebrock Aluminum version of the Ram Air IV head. You will need a set of round port exhaust headers. An aluminum intake, and depending on whether you have a manual or automatic transmisson behind the eninge, a Holley vacuum secondary of double pumper. The rear end gears will have an effect on your choice of cam. Go to the this site http://www.wallaceracing.com/ an excellant resource for Pontiac engines and find the book they adverstise Pontiac V8's by Jim hand. Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks i appreciate the help i will have many more questions as im still not sure exactly what way im going with the car yet but a point in the right direction goes along way.
