I just had my 69' pontiac 400 engine rebuilt professionally and i went to prime the pump and when i turn the driveshaft it drop down and then locks up, the pump is new the driveshaft is a good used one which was with the engine, but i just cant seem to get the driveshaft to set in on the pump part is there anything i need to know cuz its deff. not easy like a chevy thanks

The pump should have a driveshaft on it and then you take an oil pump primer tool lower it in and catch the driveshaft and then attach a drill and turn it counter-clockwise. If you go to www.amesperf.com and look at their GTO catalog page 221 you will see the driveshaft and the tool you should be using.

See i did that already but the shaft itself is jamming up down by the oil pump its like its missing the tab on the pump? Cant get it aligned?

Didnt the builder assemble the engine with the shaft installed on the pump? The end of the shaft with the 2 small knobs goes down to the pump. If it wont pass through the block you will have to grind them off. The shaft is supposed to be installed when you install the pump to the block. The knobs prevent the shaft from falling out if you turn the engine over or if you pull the distributor out. The proper fix would be to drop the pan and install the shaft.
