Hi everyone
I like to introduce myself, my name is Carlos, i live in Mexico, and Ive just acquired a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire.
I think, well actually hope, that once ive write down all my toughs it will be peace in my mind, so if you dont want to hear the emotional and sentimental crap, you should stop reading now
.
It all started with my first car (at my 15 years), a automatic 1st generation, nissan sentra
that was pretty noble and cheap, that slow, cheap to use and repair car, was suddenly and brutally, I really had no choice, my father sold it and gave me what quickly became my doom: a 1998 Chevy Cavalier sedan
It was a recepy for disaster! I was a lillte boy that jumped from a 1.6 engine and an automatic tranny, to a 5gear stick 2.2 car... i didnt even knew how to drive stick!
The replacement parts were (comparing to the sentra) very expensive, but somehow, i turn out loving the car, it holded together 5 years of college with nothing more than oil and sparks changes, it ran when needed, and even destroyed smalled cars and then drived it home, it never let me down.
Well, at the middles of 2010, with a decent job and a very understanding girlfriend, i decided to payback the car, and soon with no much of effort, it was a slow but steady recovery, but i had no rush, i was planning to keep the car for me and future kids forever
.
It was destiny, faith, or whatever you want to call it, but at november 11 of 2011, a kid crashed the side of my car at 60mph.
It turns out, that my very expensive insurance company decided that it was too much trouble to repair it, and they gave me what they considered a fair deal for the car, $24000 mexican Pesos... It was a nighmare, i couldnt buy anything near the car of my dreams, nothing that will replace the car i fell in love.
But, after 2 months without a car (Mainly because the asurance company), It came by, looked at it, make an offer, and got a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire coupe, It is in bad shape (ill make another post for tips on repairing it), but when the previous owner poped the hood, there it was! the very same 2.2 l4 engine of my cavalier, the same engine that served me well for those 6 years, the interior, the feeling...
So, it haves its details, ive been criticized, branded as fool, but at the very end, for the only reason of not changing to another model, brand, or even size of car
Im planning to keep this one so i have the time, the tools and the money, and i see so much potential on it, and im glad to see that im not alone, that ive found a community of people, that might feel the same, at least, after writing this up i feel a little better.
So thats all for now, ill be around and check the usual cases of sunfires on the forum and hope to give a hand when possible.
Greetings
