5 months ago I bought a Grand am, and it seemed to be working perfectly, except for the steering pump. I decided to take my car to Urbana, IL a 3 hour drive from were I live. On the way, it worked great! On my way back home, car started to decelerate after I put the cruise control. It did that 5 times, and I had to keep pulling over.

I stopped using the car for about a month. After the month, I used it how it was, and the only I noticed was that the car once hits 50mph to 60mph it looses pressure/hesitates to continue.

Then came the overheating problem. It started to overheat. Two mechanics 'with proper tools' did not seemed to know what the problem was. Then, I noticed my water pump was spilling water. Water pump was changed. It stopped the over heating problem for a while then came again. I took it again to a mechanic, and he said it has two leaks on the heater hoses.

Until now, the heating problem is not a big deal. Somehow my antifreeze keeps disappearing, so I just add more, which has been costing me a lot.

Since the problem of the car hesitating after traveling more than 30 miles was a big issue, we took it to get the car's codes scanned since the check engine light was on. All it said was that it had a misfire in cylinder 3. We changed the spark plug, we changed the cord. Check engine light still came one now with a faulty injector in cylinder 3. Before changing it, my car was having problems starting.

One mechanic said it was the starter, so he changed it. It worked! Then again, it did not want to start. Again, another mechanic did the fuel pressure test. He was not getting any pressure from the pump, so fuel pump was changed.

He said that would fix the problem of the car hesitating too. Unfortunately, it did not. Hoping that it was the injector that did that, we changed the injectors, most of them. After the injectors were changed, the car does this weird thing every time it stops. The scanner said it can be the oxygen sensor, other sensors that I completely forgot, or the MAP. Also, even with the injectors changed, it still looses pressure at 50-60mph.

Can someone please tell me why it keeps loosing pressure and why the car is having problems with oxygen?

Seems like you are bouncing around between mechanics rather than finding one that is qualified, ASE Automotive Service Excellance. What is the current code or codes that you have? Did you fix the leaks? Did the mechanic who changed the fuel pump change the fuel filter? Did anybody consider you may have a clogged catalytic converter?

Current codes:
"load or the AIR volume entering"
"Vacuum hose off, cracked, or passage blocked"
"Throttle body intake tube loose, off, cracked"
"oxygen sensor"
"Fuel pressure or MAF and heated oxygen sensor"
Yes, the fuel filter was changed as well. Actually, non of the 'qualified' mechanics mentioned anything about the catalytic converter. Only one of my friend's dad, who does not even own his own shop. I also did fix all the leaks. They did that radiator pressure test twice after, and still antifreeze is disapperearing.

Please provide the actual codes PXXXX. Did you have a hydrocarbon test done on the cooling system to check for a blown head gasket?

I have no idea to be honest. I just know they checked for any leaks for the cooling system, but they did not mention anything about a hydrocarbon test.

Sounds like you've had a nightmare! Probably got a coolant leak (among other spots) at the heater hose and warped the back head. That warped head uses antifreeze and screws many things up including multiple misfires and clogged catalytic converter which caused hesitation.

Sorry your mechanics have not been able to fix it; sounds like you will still have someone work on it or will you be attempting?
