The drivers side door glass has some noticeable scratches in it from where the felt on the window guides wore out years ago and I am wondering if they can be polished out or if I need to replace the glass?

I can run my thumbnail over the scratching and there doesn't appear to be any gouges or deep scratches and the door glass looks like what you would see when you take sandpaper to clear plexi. I am familiar with using a buffer and compound from when I used to build cars and paint them with lacquer so I am not afraid to try.

Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks.

Mine has the same problem some previous owner had scratched the glass.

Since the glass is tempered, I don't think buffing out deep scratches is tenable.

I think only real solution is to replace glass, and adjust the seals somehow. Or not use them in winter. Design flaw.

I think that is the fate of all older cars. I went to a u-pick auto wreckers looking for a driver's door window for 2001 GrandAm. They were all like that some worse than others but all scratched. It looks like the outer window rubber too. You probably would not want to get a new window without buying new window rubbers, if you can find them and they aren't cheap.

This does not really answer your question about buffing out the window. Saw them do a windshield of an older truck one Saturday morning on speed vision. Don't think the windshield was tinted which might add a whole new level to the buffing problem. The TV program's sponsor was Eastwood. They might have something.
