I have issues with the Grand Am GT 3.4 not starting. I have replaced the BCM. The cars dash warning lights stayed off for a while after this was replaced. Then they started to come back on periodically, and not always the same ones. Now today the car would not start. The car goes through the startup cycle with all the warning lights going on just fine, but when you turn the key nothing happens. No sounds at all. Its like there is no engine in the car at all. I have read that it could be a security module? Is there such a thing? If not, any Ideas? Please help, I'm trying to sell the car and I can't sell it like this to someone. Cheers, Paul

did you test your battery? is the security light on constantly? does it start in neutral?

The security light does not come on. I have not checked the battery. I have not checked to see if she will start in neutral. If it did start in neutral, what would that imply? Also, if the battery were faulty, would that set off the warning lights on the dash?

If the car starts in neutral you have a bad neutral safety switch. You never stated why you changed the BCM, did you scan the old one before replacing it, this requires a special scanner. Which warning lights come on you could have a bad cluster?

The BCM was bad. I had the dealership test it and then replace it. That fixed the problems with the door locks and dome light. Then a few days later the warning lights came on again. I took it to the local garage to see what codes came up. It said it was a bad wheel bearing, so I replaced it. Although the mechanic said it looked ok. That took care of the warning lights for a few days. Then they came on again. The ABS, parking brake, and change oil lights. But what is strange is that the change oil light did come on right after I had changed the oil. So now, like I said, the car would not start. So I left it for a day, then went out to try again, and nothing. The cars gauges go through their start up cycle just fine, but when you go to turn the key and engage the starter, absolutely nothing happens. No sounds, nothing! So what I did, was to turn the key in the ignition on and off rapidly, and then it started. Its been fine since. I am really confused, and I just don't trust the car. I don't mind spending money to fix something, as long as it fix's it. So if you have any idea what the problem might be, it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Paul. Also the car did start in neutral. Would this be my problem?

sounds like a possible bad ignition switch. If it doesnt start in park and then you move the shifter to neutral and it does start the neutral safety switch is causing the problem.

Thank you for your help. I will look into both of your suggestions. Cheers, Paul.
