amazes me how the price keeps going up on it, back in the late 1990's I had a chance for about 3 weeks to buy it for $70K from the widow of the engineer that had owned it for 30+ years. Had issues getting financing for it for a time, then when I contacted the widow to say I should have the $$$ in a week or so, she told me she had been offered $450K for it from a well know collector from Chicago, oh well, I did get to see it in the garage, I was amazed at its condition, and the fact that it had around 5000 miles on it! The original owner used to drive it occasionally until the mid 70's, then it was parked. I was also suprized to see it had the 1bbl version of the OHC-6. But then that is probably the only version they had running in 1963 when the car was built. I was also amazed that it has a VIN number, and could be plated in Michigan.
The asking price seems to go up $200,000 every time it pops up for sale, about every 5 years or so. It is an amazing car, that should have made production, and may have had they not made the 2nd version with a 326 V8. That convertible was an actual threat to the corvette, the OHC-6 model was more of a threat to British sports cars of the era. I think GM missed a great opportunity to dominate the sports car market in the US, at least until the 240Z showed up 10 years later.
