Trunk Leak

1968 LeMans 2 door HT. I have a huge leak into the trunk. Water is getting in from around the lip so I replaced the weatherstrip with a quality product. It’s as bad as ever. I’ve isolated it to along the top leading edge by individually directing water spray at each of the four sides then checking. The trunk lid fits flush to the body on all four sides with even gaps and all the corners line up well. I’m sure it’s not getting in past the clips that hold the stainless trim on either the small trim just above the trunk lid, or the stainless that surrounds the back light (I pulled trim and verified). Anyone have ideas on how to cure this? As a last resort I’m actually considering applying a thin strip of foam weatherstrip on the underside of the leading edge of the trunk lid to see if that works but I’m hoping for a less Mickey Mouse solution. Thanks for any thoughts!

Work with a trusted friend and a flashlight and observe from inside the trunk for the source.
The other thing you can do is adjust the latch for a tighter seal.
