77 TA No Fire

For some reason I thought the carburetor was new . That may be something to check into, the old gasoline may have gummed up inside the carburetor and depending on how it was stored outside, water is another possibility.
It sat in a field with no cover at all. The carburetor is an Edelbrock, but it sat with the car. I don't know how long the carburetor was on the car...
 
The choke is working correctly?
I do not know how to check the choke. I am using a screwdriver to keep the butterfly open. Seems to help, it fires better with it open.

I used Heat and Octane Booster in the gas tank and put 7 gallons of fresh 87 in it. Should I get some higher grade fuel?
 
Concerning the gas, the octane won't make a difference.
With the choke, depends on how cold your area is.
Is your choke the type that has a round black plastic cover held with three screws ?
If so open and close the throttle once to set the choke closed.
Loosen the three screws and turn the cover.
You want the choke to have just a small amount of pressure holding it closed, I assume your temperature is in the 40s or more.
Then tighten the three screws.
Fully depress and release the gas pedal three times and then try to start.
 
I took the carburetor off. It was full of black/rusty liquid. Are all four flaps supposed to open all the way? One set only opens a small portion.

Yes, I have the black cap on my carburetor that you mentioned. I am cleaning the carburetor right now, theres gummy stuff in it.

Did you remove the top of the carburetor to see what condition it is in?

Ok, that might be the problem? It acts like she isn't getting enough gas to stay running. As you can see in the video, it kicks over but won't fully run/start.

The secondaries dont open to start the car and the primaries only need to open a little. You said you had black rusty flluid coming out. That carburetor has to be opened up and checked

I took the carburetor off and cleaned it the best I could. I don't know if I want to try dismantling it, I am not fluent in carburetors.

I tried to open the flaps but couldn't, they are shut tight. Maybe a gallon of WD-40 to soak in would help.
 
That isnt going to clean and determine the condition of the inside of the carburetor.
Are you holding the choke open when opening the throttle?

No just opening the throttle. How do I open the choke?

The small flaps are the primary and the big flaps are secondary?

Took a can of carburetor cleaner, some WD-40, and a lot of patience but I got both primary and secondary working.

Also my choke wire doesn't have any power. Should it be constantly hot or intermittent? I watched the test light while trying to start the car but it never came on.

With the key in the run position you should have a full 12 volts.
Any chance that wire with the inline fuse was connected to the choke?
 
Is the glass filter full with gasoline?

No, it goes to the distributor for some reason. I replaced the fuse with a new one.

Yes the glass filter is full of gas.
