I love the GTO. Oddly enough, I'm not one of those people who think the car looks bland or boring.. The first model wasn't specifically stunning, but the 2005 is very nice. I rarely see one, however. Do you own a Pontiac GTO? New or old.. Post some pictures!

I think they missed the mark big time with the GTO. I admit it's a great car that brings back the true image of a GTO. Big powerful engine in a mid-size car, but they should have gone with the retro look. Ford hit it big with the '05 mustang. Pontiac should have brought back some styling influences.

I agree. People aren't very fond of the styling as it is.. Maybe the next design Will be retro.. That would be cool.. I have a feeling we're going to see a retro Chevelle soon.. If that happens, the GTO is going to be in trouble...

roadrunner

The Chevelle would definitely make an impact if GM revised the original Chevelle SS muscle car and built it from all aluminum but still dropped some muscle in to keep the power addicts (young crowd) happy. There seems to be quite a demand for more hp again but if GM keeps their prices high they'll never attract the buyers they want.

In fact they could do that with almost any line up. There is a GTO up here at the meets with a Hemi in it. Boy! Does that boy boogi!!!

By gum, this IS a Pontiac forum ain't it. How can I transfer this post to where it should belong?

You're in the right place. Your post belongs here.. :) Yes, the horsepower wars are back. And the prices aren't TOO bad.. Don't the GTO and Mustang GT start at $25k? You even have those SRT-4's (look like a Neon) starting at under $20..

I ran with a '04 Gto all the way up to 120 miles an hour in my fiero. strong running car allright. My favorite was the '70 Gto with the RaIV. but of corse my dream Goat is the 1971 GTO judge convertable....only 17 were made

Man, 2-tone. Your Fiero must be sick. I better see some posts about it when I make it to the Fiero section. :p

i like the new GTO for the simple fact that it has that muscle car feel. the styling is fine for me because the police don't look twice. i've driven it at the "AutoShowInMotion" events put on by GM here in cali. the seats are awesome and moves out very well with the six sp. the handling is a little too soft but that is just GM being conservative in the wrong areas, as usual. around here a used one goes for around $23k. now that is performance for the dollar! i will eventually have one if GM fails to deliver a new Camaro.

the 400hp and 350hp gto are faster with the manual tranny. by like 5 tenths. the auto's are 4sp and weight more, so there is no way they are faster. not trying to be rude, just correcting.

I really like the new GTO as well, of course, besides the styling cues but the 2005 is better, but it is sooooo comfortable, I would definitely snatch the interior and engine!! But I want to know what the price differences are in areas, because in a magazine I read that one would go for the new GT Mustang due to thousands less than the GTO, but where I live, that's all wrong! A GTO here is selling for around 31 33K and the GT Mustang, due to demand are around 31k as well and good luck in finding one for very long to look at, they are selling like hotcakes :D But where I live, I would snatch the GTO way over the GT if I had the choice....

I'm looking at the literature straight from Pontiac.

Automatic:
0-60: 4.6 seconds
1/4 mile: 13.0 seconds at 108 mph

Manual:
0-60: 4.7 seconds
1/4 mile: 13.1 seconds at 108 mph

I haven't seen any of the GTO owners dispute this yet... If you have, let me know because I'd like to follow it.. I'm very curious about this kind of stuff..

Thanks...

You're right. The seats Are very comfortable.. Reminded me of my C4 Corvette.. The interior is very well layed out.. Much nicer thatn the inside of a new Mustang.. It's interesting to see how the Stang is costing about the same where you are... Heh!

in car and driver they tested it and hit 0-60mph in 4.8 with the manual, but the auto took 5.2sec. every auto i have driven is slower than the equivelant car with a manual. you just can't launch an auto as well unless you have some sort of stall converter.

As an 04 GTO owner and a guy who has setup several GTO Meets I can tell you first hand the GTO is a car that needs to be seen and driven; website pics don't do it justice. The build quality of the car is amazing. The interior is extremely high quality and you can't beat red leather:)

In 04 the manuals were faster than auto. In the 05's the auto's are faster than the manuals.

Just got the latest edition of "Pontiac Enthusiast" last night. According to an article, the current GTO will be dead by '07. Seems the '07 car is to be built on an Australian Zeta rear wheel drive platform that will not meet US safety standards beyond the '07 model year. As GM is in a bind financially there are no plans to upgrade this platform. The Australian models built on this platform will be dropped also.

I don't know what was printed but that's not quite accurate.

The current GTO was based on the Monaro, which I believe is Opel platform based. It was slated from the start for a 3 year run, 04-05-06. It can't continue into 07 because of the US safety standards. The Monaro can be made in 07 for the Aussie buyers.

There was going to be a 07 or 08 GTO based on the new still under development Zeta platform that was being worked on in the US with US and Aussie engineers. It was too expensive and GM needed the resources for the next gen trucks so all development was moved to the Aussies only and delayed so it's probably an 08 or 09 model.

There had been rumors that if the Zeta platform got pushed back too much a Sigma based GTO would be made. The Sigma platform is what the CTS-V rides on.

I really like the new goat, it has that sleeper effect. It really looks sharp with a body kit and a aftermarket hood. Alot of people I talk to dont really care for the look of it but i seen what Pontiac wanted it to look like and it was nothin like the way it is. They had to change the headlight and tailight design for U.S standards. The original design was BADASS lookin. Im waitin for the Judge option to come available with the 500 horse LS2. Then it will really turn heads. I might even trade my 97 T/A in on one ;)
