• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "1995 Trans Am" isn't going to indicate to anybody that you need help. However, "Need help with my 1995 Trans Am" will. Be as descriptive as you can. Please use common sense... Is it just me or is anyone else having this problem? Everytime I log on I see "welcome "87 GP". As soon as I click on something I'm asked for my user ID and password. If I try to post it shows up as 'guset" even though I have signed in repeatedly. I tried to PM Sal about this problem the other day and I was asked to sign in about 4 different times just to get to the screen to send him a PM. After writing the message and trying to send it I was again asked to sign in! I did it a 5th time but I don't think the message was sent. This is getting to be a real PITA!

Yes it was clicked. Just went to user cp and scrolled through the list of options. I had to log on 4X to get there. I left everything as it was and clicked save changes. Then I clicked on new messages and got here w/o having to log on again. Let's see if the post is by 87 GP or unregistered.

OK that's strange! I'll have to wait and see if it happens next time I come back.

Well came back today and the upper right hand corner says user name 87 GP and when I click on something it asks me to log in again.

Sorry that was me that posted above. I just cleared my history on the computer and forgot to log in. I never had the problem's that you are explaining.

You need to clear your cookies. That's the problem. Every so often things like this happen with vBulletin (the software we use here). You don't have to clear ALL your cookies - just your PontiacOwners.com cookies.. That really should fix the problem...

Well that's not it! Cleared cookies, logged in, clicked on new messages and again was asked to log in. So here I am again posting as unregistered. I could turn off my firewall but I don't think that should matter. I am a member of a few other vbulletin formatted sites and never have this problem there.

OK now I'm trying with my firewall off and it looks like this may work. I really don't like turning it off though.

Turned the firewall back on while still logged on.

It's really strange because this vBulletin is completely stock. I haven't touched the code at all.. I wonder what could be wrong.. I run several vBulletins on this server and this isn't an issue with anyone else.. I'm really curious about this...

Sal
I don't know but when I cleared the cookies it made no difference.
When I turned off my firewall, logged in and then turned it back on it worked fine! Even now a day later no more log in screen popping up!

Well, I guess it had something to do with you being logged-in with the firewall. The firewall must not have recognized it as being "okay" until you were logged in and THEN turned it on. I'll keep this in mind for if/when it happens to someone else again..

Thank you!
