I'll start with a bit of background to my problem. I acquired a 2008 Torrent Base with a 3.4L engine.
It sat outside in upper Michigan for a few years After replacing the wheels & tires, brakes & rotors,
oil, trans fluid & coolant, I have the car running.
I got a P0336 error code (crank position sensor fault). I replaced the sensor and had no issues for a few months.
Then while driving, the tach went to zero and the transmission wouldn't downshift at a stop but the
engine seemed to be running fine (no misfiring, sputtering).
I replaced the sensor again and the same thing happened but in a shorter timeframe.
I checked the wiring (broken wires, shorts, ext...) and replaced the PCM. The issue still exists.
My question is 1) does the PCM use the CKP to control the transmission shifting and 2) will the error &
symptoms continue if I don't perform a CKP relearn procedure?
