i have a 01 with the 3.4, it has 178k miles on it, i bought it non running with bad headgaskets.after it had sat for 8 or 9 months. i replaced them and added a set of rebuilt heads. i have put 1,600 miles on it. i dont know what other engine work has been done over the years. the car runs down the road fine. and when the engine is cool it starts fine. but if you drive it and shut it off and wait a few minutes, it usually wont start and keep running unless you mash the gas pedal. if you dont mash the pedal it usually will start and die, most times you can start it about 3 times and it will keep running. if not, i can start it by even just barely pushing the pedal. when it does start, it runs smooth, it doesnt seem like it was getting too much fuel. and at idle it runs good, whether the engine is hot or cold.

thanks

Sounds like it's flooding. Pull the vacuum line off of the fuel pressure regulator. If there is gas there it needs to be replaced. If dry, it could be a leaky injector.
