...problem? hey I have an 02 firebird and the fan is stuck blowing out of the defrost. the heat/cool switch works, and then fan power switch works, but the vent selector switch is completely ineffective. I opened up the passenger side and it looks like there are about 8 wires coming out of that switch going to what I think are seperate motors (one for floor, one for chest, one for defrost, etc) but I'm not sure how this system works, and there is no explanation in the Chilton. Can anyone explain how this system is set up, and do you think that getting a new switch would fix the problem? I just bought the car and it looks like the previous owner screwed with a lot of stuff installing the radio. Doesn't look like anything's unplugged though. Any help would be appreciated!
where is the motor than operates the ventilator door?

IF you have wires coming out of the back of the control you have individual motors for each vent and they are controled by rotating the vents by a control rod the motors are syncronized to the position by computer circuits in the motors, if one is bad it will probably need to be replaced , but I would suggest if you don't have experiance doing it to have it done by a trained tech do it as they must be put in and timed or they will strip out the motors allmost immediatly ... and the other bad news they aren't cheep ...
you may want to have it checked by a dealer to make sure that is what it is but i have seen a few go bad and replaced some also when I was tech...
