*tips hat* Morning

New to the forum, but not to Pontiac. I have an '02 Montana that won't start, and am not quite sure of the issue. January of last year, it died in the next town over (middle of Winter no less, and i had 3/4 of my children in it) and wouldn't start. After we got it towed home, I changed out the fuel filter (as advised by my then employer), but that did nothing. I checked the fuse/relay under the hood, and it's working just fine. A mechanic told me about some nozzle behind the alternator (almost like a valve stem from a tire); i checked that, and there is still fuel getting to it. I may be wrong in doing so, but I ruled out the fuel pump because.. well.. i figure since fuel is still getting through the system, the pump would have to be working. When I go to start it, it will turn over and try to start, but just won't start. It will just keep cranking.

We aren't the first owners of this van, but we've put a decent amount into it (tires [twice], head gasket, water pump, brakes, shocks, alternator, couple of things i can't remember); and this van has seen us through a lot. We put 50k miles on it in 2 1/2 years, and it was still running strong; until last January. Obviously we are going to have to replace the brakes, rotors, calipers and drums now as well.

The check engine light has been on ever since we bought the van in '11. It's been a great van, and don't want to get rid of it. Also bought a '04 Venture with taxes (same van)..

Any advice?

Well I know u need spark fuel and air. So sounds like ur missing spark. The whole sequence starts with the cam sensor signal . It may be better to hook up a computer to the engine to see if that sensor is working and would also show more info to aid you in trouble shooting. Good luck keep us posted.

fuel squirting out means nothing unless you attach a fuel pressure tester. Did you have a check engine light on prior to the problem?

Steelcity - where would i find the cam sensor?

Melsg5 - the Check Engine light has been coming on and off intermittently since we bought the van. What kind of tester would I need?

As for the computer, no one does house calls around here, and it'd be $80 round trip to tow it there for diagnostics, and back to my house

it is going to cost you more than 80 dollars to get a scan tool and fuel pressure tester.

It's on the front of the engine down near the water pump. Follow a set of wires . Usually it's tucked in deep and hard to see.

3/4? I hope you have four kids lmbo
Maybe no spark?
I'm looking at a Montana in fact, in exchange for album art :3 I like Pontiac. I want one of every model haha

Or a twenty dollar scan tool and a smart phone but maybe you don't have that kind of time...
