Yes im no mechanic but i have an 01 that does the same thing. and after HOURS of research,They actually believe it's because of multiple actions on the blinker arm(switch)it gets dusty and actually glitches and is not sure what signal it's suppost to be sending, which can and will eventually cause a short and maybe a fire. also i do know that on the 01 they are replacing the hazzard switch to only stop the problem for a while it seems now this is my opinion after what i've found. there is also a recall on 01's for this you may research around and see if maybe your year is part of that also....hope this at least gives you something to raise brow about.
