You either are using the wrong key or the ignition switch tumbler has broken requiring a new ignition switch.
GM has used a different key for the ignition switch vs the car doors. I don't know if they continued that in your car. But my 1993 PU and 1983 Suburban used different keys (ignition vs doors). The ignition key was square while the door key was rounded.

i have that problem as well, sometimes though, not all the time. i have several spares for my grand am nd one of them wont start it but the others do. nd the main one i use wont unlock my trunk. also none of my keys unlock the passenger door. i have been told that my IST is bad until i use a different key which starts it leaving everyone stumped... so i tend to get a little bit confused.
