03 stick shift is loose

I started off having an issue getting from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th. Yesterday shifting into 2nd gear felt different and started to grind. Now the gear stick is very loose as though something has slipped.

Any suggestions?

check the shift cables where they attach to the shift linkage on the transmission

Both of those are still attached, but after moving them about a bit, the upper linkage has extended further than I've seen before.

One of the linkage cables had snapped close to the stick shift. Thankfully an easier fix than changing the slave cylinder

I'm struggling to find any info on the cable used for the standard model, only the automatic. Is it universal?

Is the cable the same for both automatic and standard models?

No it is not the same, what is it you are trying to find out, where to buy the cable? I believe you will have to find them at a junk/salvage yard or try www.car-parts.com

The part number I needed was #22707146, transmission control cables. Managed to get some from a scrapyard for $23. It was an easy fix and thankfully my Sunfire is back on the road.

actually it is still available from gm but over $100
