03 Sunfire 2.2L ecotec - Error code P0172

03 Sunfire, 2.2L ecotec... Error code P0172... was stalling at almost every stop for about week, RPM's dropped then picked back up when slowing down. Then one morning car won't start. Fuel pump working (can hear it when ignition turned on), checked fuel rail, tried new coil packs, cleaned O2 censor, tried new platinum spark plugs... still not firing up... Any ideas? Thank you!

EDIT: Error code is P0172 (not P0171 as title shows)

were the old plugs soaked in gas? try removing the vacuum line to the pressure regulator to check for gasoline, if so regulator has to be replaced. Did you check fuel pressure with a gauge? you have a spark at coil packs/spark plugs? is the security light on?

Thanks for your reply.

Yes the plugs were soaked with gas. Noticed that yesterday... also noticed fuel getting in with oil.

Not sure how to check the fuel pressure so all I did was took off the cap on the fuel rail and pushed the pin in while someone tried firing up the car. Huge spray of gas came out lol.

Not sure if I have spark at the coil packs... just tried using another working set of coil packs and ICM.

After posting this I took out the injectors and they appear dirty, especially #2. Going to try cleaning them.

No security light on...

check the fuel pressure regulator, pull off the vacuum line and look for gas

Pulled off the Fuel Pressure Regulator... i'll swap it with another when I find one. Vacuum line leaked gas when i pulled it out.

Hopefully when you say swap it you mean a NEW one.

shhhhh :)
