Hello Experienced people,

So my girl friend has a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 eco-tech that keeps blowing cooling fan fuses (30amp) I've replaced relay and fuse. It'll be fine for 5 min to a few days. I'm thinking a short in the wiring but have heard alot about ECT causing alot if issues with this make and model fan works fine with new fuse comes on with a/c until the fuse blows if course. So my question is could the fuse be blowing for some other reason then a wire grounding out or arcing. Her brother seems to think the fan motor is causing the issue. But it comes on and stays on for awhile before acting up I've seen it last a week before blowing. I'm good with mechanics and rewiring but not great with voltage, amperage and what would be causing the overload. Is there more than one relay or more than one fuse.

Any help would be appreciated I don't want to replace the fan motor if that's not the problem and I really don't think it is unless it's drawing too much power for some reason like maybe the armatures going out.

Sorry if to much rambling this is my first ever forum post if I left anything out please let me know

Thanks

It could be the motor overheating and eventually blowing the fuse or a bare hot wire that periodiclally moves and touches ground

My experience with electric fans is its usually the motor, but it can also be wiring issue. Motor when they start to go can act very odd.
