hey guys my sister just bought an 04 sunfire. before she bought it i drove it for about ten minutes, no problems, so she bought the car. 2 days later she was driving and the car stalled out but then started back up.

The next day it stalled again but wouldnt restart. so we replaced the fuel pump and filter. of course the car started. seemed alright. stalled again that night and wouldnt restart at all until the next day.

so i read about leaving the key on for 10 minutes and then it started.

But it seems this problem is so random that i have no idea if what im trying is fixing it.

sometimes when cranking the Theft system light on the dash is lit when the car wont start. But also sometimes the Theft system light is NOT on while cranking yet the car will still not start.

Is there any other possible problems it could be besides anti theft system?

or if the best chances are it is the security system what is the cheapest way to fix the problem? how hard is it to just remove the system?

Sounds like it isn't recognizing the key intermitently. It can be tuned out of the computer.

We have Grand Prix of the same year, I'm going to assume that the security systems are very similar, if not the same. With outs, if the battery was disconnected, or the system was reset, only the master key will turn on the car. If she has two sets, try using the other set and if the problem seems to go away, it's in the security, if it continues, it doesn't rule out the security, but I'd look for some sort of false input.
