05 Grand AM - Wipers Won't Stop

The wipers function completely normally, otherwise, but when turned to the off position, they'll continue to wipe several more times before eventually just stopping and parking at the bottom.
I can sometimes make them stop by pressing the wiper fluid button...they'll continue to wipe a few more times and stop, but this doesn't always work.

There is a tab on the wiper transmission linkage that is either somewhat worn or slightly bent. This applies to a slightly older model but gives you an idea of what is involved to gain access to the wiper transmission.
