Hi all,
My 05 Sunfire has a few issues that I hope can be answered here.
05 Sunfire Base coupe
95,000mi

First, I have what seems to be a common Sunfire issue - dim headlights. I'll check the ground behind the battery & hopefully that will help my SilverStars shine as they should.

Second, the amber odo/trip meter is flashing as if it has a bad connection. I can tap on the dash or steering wheel to make it flicker. is this an easy fix or do I need a new cluster??

Third, my heater controls illumination just stopped. Is it as simple as getting in there & replacing the bulb?

And finally - Code 0455. Major evap leak. It comes up randomly. sometimes right after filling up then other times towards an empty tank. Is there a (common) issue with Sunfires that will cause this code or just a case of having a bad gas cap?

Thanks!

1. Did you read the packaging that came with the Silverstars, about a 1 year lifetime with dimming is expected.
2. It could be a bad connection but you have to remove the cluster no matter what.
3. It sounds like a bulb but it may be an LED which gets more complicated, again disassembly is required.
4. The easiest fix is a new cap after that you would need a smoke test to find the leak.

1. The bulbs are brand new & I've polished the lenses.
2. I can live with it flickering
3. I can live with it
4. I'll try a new cap but thinking about it more - this error code could have something to do with why my gas mileage dropping by 50+ miles per tank.

Use a voltmeter to check the light sockets and as you said the ground connections.
