06 hitch instalation question

I have an 06 pontiac torrent AWD. I am trying to sinstall the hitch and the side screws don't want to screw in at all. Has anyone run into this problem or are those screws differnt botlh pattern then the middle ones? anyone? Or does anyone know the actually bolt size for the hitch bolts?

The bolts for the sides are a slightly different size than the ones used along the bottom. If the bolts came with the hitch its possible you are trying to install the larger bolts in the smaller side holes.
