Hey!

New guy here with a problem! I'm a regular on many other forums but just found this one and I think it's my best shot at getting the help I need. just looking for info on this problem I have found alot of other great info on other topics! anyways on to my problem...

I've got a 06' torrent 2wd and this morning I went to turn the heater on and when I turned the fan speed dial I heard the blower start for a split second and then nothing...I checked the fuse under the hood and it is good, I replaced the relay with a new one in the passanger kick panel, still not working...I also am getting power (12v) to the blower motor only when I disconnect the plug to the blower when I connect it back to the motor I get nothing???
I took the motor out and ran a + and - 12guage wire from the battery and when I touch them to the blower motor prongs I can get the motor to blip on for a second but I can't hold that motor and keep the wires attached for very long to keep the motor spinning but it appears the motor works. (I think)...

any ideas?

Thanks!

Typically the blower motor speed resistor burns out.

if the resistor was bad wouldn't that fault out to only high speed?

check the voltage at the motor at the different speed settings.

well when I unplug the connector at the motor I get 0 volts when the speed dial is off and I get 11.4-11.6 volts when I turn the dial up to full speed, not much of a voltage change between low speed and high speed... strange thing is when I plug the connector back into the motor I get 0 volts...

could there be an internal short in the motor causing this?

go back to what you tried originally, applying power directly to the motor.

ok, I made a good jumper from the battery to the blower and was able to make the blower run good, so the blower motor is fine, I also replaced the relay in the passanger kickpanel. I have power at the blower plug but once I plug it in I get no voltage? as soon as I connect the plug the voltage goes from 12.15 to 0...

well I found the problem!!! I took the resistor out (boy was that fun!) and found that the plug was melted and burnt up at the purple wire...I went down to the parts store to get a new plug which they did not have or could find one so I went home and took the melted wire and connector out of the plug and soldered a new metal connector on and fit it in to the old plug. put everything back together and everything works!!!!

Thanks everyone for you help!

Glad I found this thread, I had the same issue.

I basically did the same repair as jlmotox, except the purple wire is on the end of the connector, so I cut out the corner off the plug (burnt up anyways) threaded the wire though and crimped on a regular connector. the regular female spade connector is too big, but with the corner cut out it fit just fine. Cleaned all the burnt crap off the resistor pack terminal, and put the resistor back in. plugged it back in and I have a blower again.

water?

I did the same repair in July, and at the time I found the purple wire lug just rusted away. If moisture is getting to the resistor pack and then the connection corrodes, you start to get a high resistance and heat. I'm going to pull that resistor pack out again and apply some dialectric grease. My wifes 06 Impala had a similar problem with the rear defog elements and again it was at a plug by the passenger foot area, were moisture is getting to the plug terminals and starting to rust, then it burns the lug off.
Maybe GM should have used dialectic grease on all high current connections
BTW my daughter is at university (about 500 miles away) with the Torrent and her passenger side brake light stopped working, she paid $15 for a bulb and one of the guys changed it and told her the old one looked ok. The new one doesn't light up either, she wanted me to call the GM dealer with a credit card so he could check it out. I told her to wait til she comes home at Thanksgiving. Anyone have this problem before

Can you point me to where the resistor is? My torrent is doing the same thing.

Changed fuses and relays, changed the blower fan, new fan doesn't work either, checked the resistors and wiring, all look fine. Any other ideas why the blower still won't work?

you havent checked anything with a test light or voltmeter? Is power going to the fan, the resistor, the fuse, etc?

Fan works with a bypass, I have power at the control unit. I get no power at the fan. Replaced resistor, still a no go. Fuses are all good. I'm at a loss

did you test for power at the resistor? If no power trace the harness back from the resistor.

Same problem, same issue with the purple wire being fried. Replaced the resistor, clipped the burnt part off the clip, crimped a new connector on the purple wire, reattached and it's good to go.

When I say clipped the burnt end off the clip, I mean I literally removed the far right side of the clip and the new wire connector sits independent of the original clip. This didn't affect the clip's ability to connect ti the resistor.
