07 sunfire shifter broken

Hey all, The shifter on my wife 07 sunfire GT convertible stopped working today. It got stuck in 3rd gear so she was able to get it home. The shifter just swims around when you move it. There is no gates for 1st 2nd 3rd ect. Is this a cable, bushing, or shifter mechanism problem? Also, how to you remove the center console, I have the front loose but cant find what secures the rear of the console?

OK, after fiddling around, 1st, 3rd, and 5th will engagebut when you pull the shifter back to you in 2nd, 5th, or reverse no engagement. any ideas?

Sounds like a broken cable to me.

both the cables move, does any one know what the cable on the left side of the shifter does? It doesnt seem to move very much. Is that one for reverse only?

did you look at the transmission end of the cables? sounds like on of them is broken
