Just picked up a Torrent with 188k on the clock and it has some shifting problems. At times the service traction control and service stabilitrack lights will be on and it feels like it is trying to take off in drive or O/D, I can drop it into low and manually shift it but it engages hard (comparable to a shift kit) and when these lights are on cruise control won't work. TIA!!!!

you need to start with having the codes read from the computer, these codes will lead you down a diagnostic flow chart found in a factory service manual.
a speed sensor could cause some possibly all the symptoms
have you checked the transmission fluid is it full and does it smell and look burnt?
