1963 389 intake manifold problem

hi I have a 63 pontiac catalina. with a 389 I'm in the process of trying to install an after market intake manifold and a 4 brl. carb. so far i have had bad luck trying to locate an intake manifold that's after market for this car. I've been to summit and all types of different auto parts stores and the intake they want to sell me is for a 65 to 79 and it is two short for the 389 in my Catalina. does anyone know where I can find an aftermarket intake or can point me in the right direction. thanks

You need an intake manifold designed for the 61 to 64 engine. Try contacting Wallace for a source or try www.frankspontiacparts.com .

Most say it flows only as good as the stock cast iron manifold, but you do save weight.

I have one 66/389 four barrel and a two, OEM. Not sure if they are compatible. Hate to through them in the dumpster.

You may have better luck looking for a stock 4bbl iron intake, but that would limit your carb choices.

The only other way to go would be to put later heads on it. If the motor has been rebuilt, 389 replacement pistons usually have cutouts for both valve angles, if it's stock then that becomes a problem - and given the 61-63 block only will take a 61-64 trans without an adapter they're not really worth spending big money on, much simpler to just get a 65-up motor and build that.

I'd be afraid of hopping up a car with a slim-jim trans, too, given how weak they are.
